Garcia's career-low 63 propels Bucs school record 16-under round on moving day

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. -- Jorge Garcia gave the Buccaneers just what the doctor ordered.

And the rest of the team followed suit.

Garcia shot a career-low 63 on moving day at the NCAA Division II Championship at Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals' Fighting Joe course Tuesday to vault the Bucs to the top of the leaderboard entering Wednesday's final day of the stroke play portion of the national tournament. The No. 3/5-ranked Bucs used a school record-low round of 16-under 272 to move up four spots for an 18-under 558 total through 36 holes.

Tyler Bakich also catapulted the Buccaneers with a 5-under 67 on the 7,407-yard course. Daniel Faccini shot 2-under, and Kyle Brey shot par in the second round to account for Barry's record-breaking day.

"We needed a good round, and we got it," Barry coach Jimmy Stobs said. "I had complete confidence in my guys that we could play superior golf, and today we did that. Jorge was fantastic. He was hitting every shot, and making every putt. That's the reason we brought him to Barry. Tyler played some great golf, too. He has really started to find his game late this season, and we're happy to have him in the mix with us, too."

West Florida is second at 15-under 561, and Florida Southern third at 12-under. Lynn is fourth at 9-under, and Indianapolis fifth at 5-under.

Garcia has one-stroke lead over Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan on the individual leaderboard. Saint Leo's Oliver Lilliedahl is two strokes back. Garcia enters the final round of stroke play at 11-under 133 after jumping seven spots.
