Men's Golf 5 Shots off Lead at Matlock Collegiate Classic

No. 12 Barry shoots 276 in opening round, sits in second

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University's 12th-ranked men's golf team is in second place after two rounds of the Matlock Collegiate Classic.

Host Florida Southern holds a five-stroke lead over the Bucs, thanks in large part to John VanDerLaan's blistering second round when he ripped off eight birdies on the front nine on his way to a 7-under 65. VarDerLaan and teammate John Coultas are tied for the lead at 9-under 135, two strokes ahead of Barry's Niclas Weiland.

Weiland shot 7-under 69-68 -- 137.
