Women's Tennis Rolls in NCAA South Region Championship

Bucs move on to NCAA Championships May 10-13

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Isabel Rapisarda Calvo came to Barry knowing she may have only one semester of college tennis.

Tuesday, on a day she was feeling under the weather, Rapisarda Calvo shined bright in helping Barry University's No. 2-ranked women's tennis team beat No. 11 Valdosta State, 5-0, to win the NCAA Division II South Region Championship at Buccaneer Tennis Center. Rapisarda Calvo, a senior transfer from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, sent the Bucs to the NCAA Championships with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sabrina Schmidt at No. 4 singles to clinch the title.

"The feeling is great," said Rapisarda Calvo, who is ranked 21st in the country in singles. "This is the first time I played here in college tennis, and probably the last time, so I'm very happy that I did this. I really like this team, and I'm very happy about it."
