Baseball Hosts Florida Tech This Weekend

The Bucs look to extend their 60-59 lead in the all-time series against the Panthers.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Buccaneer baseball hosts the Panthers of Florida Tech this upcoming weekend in a three-game conference series.

Barry (16-19, 3-6 SSC) nearly holds the edge in the all-time series, leading 60-59 against Florida Tech. The Bucs are coming off of a 9-5 loss from earlier this week to Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Panthers (18-13, 4-5 SSC) go into this weekend series on a two-game losing streak. FIT grabbed two of the three games played against the Bucs last year. Tech finished fifth in the conference for the 2016 season.

The Bucs are led by outfielder, Julian Abreu, who continues to climb the league leader boards. He is now second in the conference for runs scored (43), third in hits (56), ninth in batting average (.394), and tied for first with teammate Claudio Rubiera in doubles (15).

Don't sleep on Justin Lamazares (.381) and Ryan Baldwin (.343), as they are right behind Abreu at the plate for the Bucs. The duo combine for 94 hits, as well as 16 doubles, 12 home runs and 59 RBI.

Expect to see big things on the mound from Barry's Nate Greve. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native was just tabbed the honor of SSC pitcher of the week, after his stellar performance in the 12-0 win over Nova.

Florida Tech is led at the plate by Grant McKown, who has played and started in every game this season for the Panthers. McKown bats .350, and has 41 hits as well as 10 doubles on the season thus far.

Right behind McKown is Nick Capra, who is second in the league in triples so far with four. Capra has a .344 batting average, and has a total of 32 hits and seven doubles. Rounding out the top three is Reid Neal, who has also played in and started every game for the Panthers. Neal wields a .341 batting average and leads his team in hits with 43 this season.

On the mound for the Panthers this season, Andy Marzheuser has helped get five wins for FIT, while only losing two games. He is among the league's leaders in ERA with 3.38, as well as in the category of batters struck out looking with 17.
