MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry Buccaneers baseball team will host the Sailfish over Mar. 24-25 in a three-game regular season series.
The two matched up earlier this year in a regular season matchup in West Palm Beach. It was Barry's opening game of the season in which the Bucs came away with the 7-1 victory.
"We will have to play better than the first time we met with PBA," head coach Juan Ranero said. "We need to continue hitting the ball like we have been lately, but most importantly we need to play solid defense."
Barry (14-14, 2-4 SSC) is coming off of a 14-18 loss to St. Thomas, but are looking to repeat the result they got earlier on in the season against PBA. Julian Abreu, batting .396, will be a big help to the offense in this weekend's series. Abreu is currently fifth in the league for runs scored (35), sixth in the league for most hits (44), and second in the league for doubles (12).
Look out for big performances from Michael Escarra (.394), Ryan Baldwin (.358), Claudio Rubiera (.338) and Justin Lamazares (.406). Escarra went 4-5 in their 12-8 victory against Eckerd this past weekend. Lamazares leads the team in home runs with six, and right behind him is Baldwin with four this season thus far. Baldwin and Lamazares each have eight doubles, and combine for 82 hits on the season. Rubiera, who rotates from catcher to designated hitter, is also tied for second in the league with Abreu with 12 doubles.
Don't be surprised if Daniel Broeseker grabs a save or two this weekend for the Bucs, as he is currently tied for second in the conference with four this season.
PBA (18-10) travel to Feinbloom field, currently on a two-game win streak. They are coming to Miami Shores off of a 7-1 victory against Florida Tech. The Sailfish are led at the plate by Noah Johnson (.422), Jake Summey (.418) and Sean Visconti (.374). Johnson and Summey each have 38 hits on the season. Visconti leads the team in hits with 43, as well doubles with 17.
