MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's sixth-ranked men's basketball team will play at Palm Beach Atlantic 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Buccaneers (19-2, 12-2 Sunshine State Conference) hold a two-game lead in the league race. The Sailfish (10-11, 6-8) are in the final year as a provisional member of the SSC. The game will air on the
Sailfish Network.
Barry lost to PBA last season in West Palm Beach, 100-99, on a last-second inbounds play. Barry is 9-4 all time at Rubin Arena. Prior to dropping last year's game on the road, the Buccaneers had won the previous three in West Palm Beach.
The Bucs, who own a 27-5 overall record in the series, beat the Sailfish, 91-73, in the first meeting this season.
Malek Barber and Grant Gullett each scored 13 points, and combined for 18 rebounds against the Bucs in the first meeting. Bakari Warthen, who is averaging 14.1 points per game, had 12 points in Miami Shores. Lucas Morales scored 11 points, and grabbed nine boards against the Bucs at the Health & Sports Center. Gullett is scoring 11.9 points per game, and Barber 10.7.
Five players continue to average in double figures for Barry, including
Adrian Gonzalez's 20.1 points per game.
Elvar Fridriksson, whose offense has flourished in the past three weeks, is putting up 15.5 points and 7.8 assists per game. He has won the past two Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors.
Arie Williams is scoring 13.2 points,
Sawyer Glick 12.3, and
Daniel Mortensen 10.2, while pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game.
Kenan Guzonjic is averaging 8.3 points and 6.2 boards.
Saturday the Bucs will host Tampa on Homecoming. Barry will host a special Make-A-Wish® event before Saturday's 5 p.m. tipoff. Many homecoming and
Reunion Weekend activities will be held on campus.
