MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball split its first doubleheader of 2016 against Wisconsin-Parkside, winning the first game 9-8, losing 5-3 in the second one.
In the first game, the Buccaneers would need an extra inning to win it as
Carlos Matamoros drew a walk at the plate, which would bring home
Ramon Valdez to win it in a slug fest that mirror the first game of the series on Friday.
The Bucs would have 12 hits from seven different batters with
Carlos Matamoros continuing his strong form in a two hit, three RBI performance that included a two-run homer to right field in the 2
nd inning.
Lance Elder would earn his first win as a Buc in a three strikeout effort in 2.1 IP. Rangers pitcher Cody Rolshoven got his first loss on the year.
In the second game, the Bucs would let a late lead slip away as they allowed the Rangers to score four runs in the final two innings to take one back in the series.
Khalil Denson had the performance of the latter game, with three hits while
Alexander DeGoti adds to an already impressive season, hitting a two-RBI triple in the 3
rd inning.
UWP pitcher Nate Stole would claim the win in a complete effort, striking out eight. Bucs pitcher
Armando Gonzalez took his second loss of the year.
The Bucs now stand at 4-2 on the season, while Wisconsin-Parkside is 1-1 on the year.
The two teams will finish the series up tomorrow at 1 PM.
