MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Barry baseball ended its home schedule on a good note, defeating Ave Maria, 8-4, Wednesday.
The Bucs won due to two strong innings of hitting in the third and eighth. In the third, a
Christian Khawly double brought in
Kyle Pangallo, a
Khalil Denson walk brought in Khawly and another walk by
Jonathan Quintana brought in
JC Cardenas. A
Jake Jacobs RBI single rounded out the inning by bringing in
Greg Brodzinski.
The Gryenes scored a run in the fifth and three runs in the eighth to make a close one but the Bucs would answer.
The Bucs added a run in the seventh on Brodzinski's RBI double that brought in Cardenas. Barry scored three more in the eighth on a Cardenas sacrifice fly scored Jacobs, and a
Ramon Valdez RBI single brought in Khawly and
Mike Diaz.
Joeanthony Rivera picked up his third save of the year in a 1.2 innings pitched, three-strikeout effort.
Quintana, the Bucs starter, got the win, going five innings and striking out two to improve his record to 1-2 on the year. Ave Maria pitcher Andrew Steele took the loss, after going 4.1 innings to put his record at 1-5.
The Bucs improve to 19-24 on the year, and finish the year with a winning 15-14 record at home. The Gyrenes are now 21-33.
Up next for the Bucs is their last true road series of the year with a trip to Lakeland, Fla., to take on Florida Southern in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
