Baseball Falls to FSC

Bucs let lead slip away in loss to Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla.—Barry baseball had a hot start to the day but sputtered late as that fell 6-5 to SSC foe Florida Southern.

The Buccaneers started off well with four runs in the second inning off a Kyle Pangallo RBI triple that brought in Jake Jacobs, then Pangallo scored on a balk. A JC Cardenas RBI double brought in Mike Diaz and Khalil Denson grounded out to second base to bring in Christian Khawley.

A Jhalan Jackson homerun to right field in the third put the Mocs in the game.

The Bucs would response in the fifth inning with a Jake Jacob sacrifice fly bringing in Greg Brodzinski.

However, the Mocs would take the game beginning in the bottom of the fifth with Nichcolas Brugnoni two-run homerun to left field. In the bottom of the seventh, Florida Southern would score three runs to take the lead off a Blake Swann sacrifice fly that brought in Jason Sierra, a Casey Eddinger sacrifice fly that tied it up and then a Kyle Richards RBI double down the right field line to give the Mocs the lead.

The Bucs would try unsuccessfully to tie the game up for the next two innings before falling.

The Bucs now stand at 19-25 and 6-13 in the SSC while Florida Southern improves to 20-20 and 8-11 in the conference.

Bucs starter Nate Greve struck out four in 6.1 IP, while reliever JoeAnthony Rivera got the loss to put his record at 3-4. FSC starter Ben Richardson improves to 4-7 on the year in a 7.0 IP outing. Closer AJ Smith got his third save of the  year in a 2.0 IP, two strikeout effort.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader that is slated to begin at 1 pm.
