EDINBORO, Pa. -- Barry University's
Yunio Barrueta was named a Daktronics/College Sports Information Directors of America Honorable Mention All-American Monday.
A 6-foot-6, 215-pound junior forward from Miami, Barrueta led the Buccaneers in scoring (18.7) and rebounding (9.7) on the way to a school-best 25-6 season which ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Barrueta had 14 double-doubles this season. He scored a career-high 31 points at Palm Beach Atlantic and twice grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds, including in the NCAA Tournament. His 581 points scored ranks fourth in school single-season history. His 300 rebounds rank second.
Barrueta shot .518 from the field, including .418 from 3-point range this season. He sank a career-high 11 of 11 free throws in a win at No. 16 Lynn.Â
He was also named CoSIDA First-Team All-South Region and First-Team All-Sunshine State Conference. Barrueta enters his senior season 23 points shy of 1,000 in his Barry career.
