MIAMI SHORES, FL—After a first game that saw them win comfortably 8-1 Friday night, Barry baseball was confident coming into Saturday's doubleheader that they could get some good results on the day. However, it was not to be as the Bucs dropped the two games, 10-16 and 1-9.
In the first game, the Bucs had plenty of hits and kept it close until the Fighting Knights were able to put some distance between the teams to win the game.
Barry had 12 hits off of eight batters with right-fielder
Ryan Baldwin leading the team with three hits, while freshmen
Ross Thibeault and
Kyle Pangallo hit back-to-back homeruns in the fifth inning which gave the Bucs their first runs of the game.
The Bucs added five more runs in the sixth inning that made it a one-run ballgame. RBI by
Frank Gonzalez,
Kyle Pangallo,
Mike Diaz, and
Khalil Denson kept Barry in it.
The comeback seemed to be on until Lynn right-fielder John Borup hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning. This gave the Knights the lead they needed as they ended up winning a high-scoring affair between the SSC foes.
Bucs starter
Luis Deville struck out four in 6.2 IP in the loss. Winning pitcher Kyle Carter struck out four in five innings pitched.
The second game was much different for the Bucs as their bats could not get going, managing just seven hits and only able to score one run off a
Ramon Valdez RBI single.
Khalil Denson led the team with two hits.
The Knights had success at the plate and on the mound as they had 18 hits off of nine different batters. This offensive showcase included homeruns by shortstop Matt Tietz and catcher Alex DeBellis.
Buc pitchers combined for just three strikeouts in a tough game for the Barry team.
The Bucs now stand at 14-12 and 3-6 in the SSC on the season while Lynn improves to 22-6 and 6-3 in the conference.
Up next for the Bucs is a trip up to West Palm Beach, FL to take on local rival Palm Beach Atlantic on March 24 at 6 pm.
