Box Score
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University had its school-record 11-game win streak snapped to Florida Southern Wednesday night in front of 1,078 fans at the Health & Sports Center.

The Buccaneers, ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II media poll and No. 3 in the coaches poll, lost for the second time at home this season. Meanwhile, the Moccasins, ranked No. 2 in the coaches poll and No. 4 in the media poll, improved to 7-0 on the road. Now both teams are saddled with one loss in the Sunshine State Conference, creating a tie at the top of the league standings.

Barry (17-2, 9-1 SSC) led for just 6:41 in a game that featured 15 lead changes. Florida Southern (20-1, 8-1) didn't cave after building a double-digit second half lead, holding off a late push by the Buccaneers, who went 17 of 18 from the free throw line.

The Mocs led by as many as 12 with 11:43 to play, but the Bucs went on a 6-0 run over the next 1:38 to cut it to 66-60 after Yunio Barrueta scored in transition. Bubby Johnson's dunk extended the Mocs' lead back to eight, but Barrueta hit a jumper at the 8:29 mark to make it a four-point game. After Dylan Travis hit two free throws with 6:07 to go to push Florida Southern back in front by eight, the Bucs used two free throws by Jevoni Robinson and a triple and lay-in by Juan Ferrales over a 1:49 span to draw within one, 76-75.

But after FSC's Kevin Capers, the leading scorer in the SSC, canned a three-pointer, Barry's Deric Hill missed a triple try, and Tyler Kelly sank a free throw for the Mocs to cushion the road-tested team's lead to four. Barry's Arie Williams stuck a three after crossing over Kelly at the 2:40 mark to cut it one again, but that's as close as the Bucs got. Florida Southern made its last six free throws to seal it.

Capers finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists. Stephen Battle had 13 points and six boards for the Mocs, which shot 43 percent.

Barrueta had 22 points and six boards on nine of 17 shooting. He sank three free throws to extend his streak to 21 in a row over the last five games. Ferrales scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, and was 4-for-4 from the stripe to bump his consecutive free throws made run to 26 in a row over a nine-game stretch. Savad Garner had nine of his 11 points in the first half, canning the first triple of his Bucs career 31 seconds into the game.

Adrian Gonzalez finished with 10 points on four of five shooting, and had two steals in 14 minutes for the Buccaneers, who shot a paltry six of 27 from long range. The six triples matched a season-low for Barry, which fell to 16-47 all-time against the Mocs -- the only school in the history of the SSC to win a national title.

Florida Southern, which entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in scoring offense (91.7) and free throw percentage (78.1), went 16 of 20 from the line for 80 percent. Barry, which led the nation in assists per game (20.4) was credited with 14 helpers.

Barry will play its final regular season non-conference game 4 p.m. Saturday when it makes the trek up to West Palm Beach for a meeting with Palm Beach Atlantic. The Bucs' next home game is next Wednesday against Rollins.
