Quintana Shines as Baseball Sweeps Owls in Doubleheader

Jonathan Quintanhas has a standout day as Bucs sweep SCSU

MIAMI SHORES, FL--For the second straight weekend, Barry baseball began a three-game series with a doubleheader sweep, this time over Southern Connecticut State 9-3 and 10-1. A big reason for the two wins was first baseman Jonathan Quintana.

The redshirt-freshman from Miami Lakes had a standout day as he went 5-for-7 at the plate with two homers, including a grand slam, two doubles, and seven RBI.

His grand slam was a first inning blast that broke the first game wide open for the Bucs in route to a 9-3 victory.

In game two, he belted another home run in the second inning and had a double that was part of a seven-run fourth inning that put the game firmly in the Bucs' hands as they went on to win 10-1. He had three RBI in game two.

Junio shortstop JC Cardenas, who went 4-for-7 with two RBI, also had an outstanding day in the sweep.

Adrian Benitez (2-0) picked up the win in game one for the Bucs. He worked six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

In game two, Joeanthony Rivera struck out 11 in a seven-inning complete game. He held the Owls (0-2) to a run on two hits and a three walks.

The Bucs improve to 5-2 on the season and look to continue their winning ways as the series continues tomorrow when they take on the Owls at 1 pm at Feinbloom Field.
