MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--In their first away game outside of Miami-Dade County, Barry baseball heads to West Palm Beach to take on the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic tonight at 6 pm.
This will be the 66
th meeting between the programs with the Buccaneers holding a 45-20 advantage.
The Sailfish are still searching for their first win of the year after dropping the opening game versus Lynn and getting swept at West Alabama in a 3-game series this past weekend.
The Bucs come off a series with Tuskegee that saw them win both games of the doubleheader Saturday and drop the third game Sunday and they look to get above .500 in the record books tonight at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
Palm Beach Atlantic has a group of players that can challenge at the plate. Third baseman Peter Rivera has a team-leading three RBI and second baseman Pat Kane has a team-leading .333 batting average.
The Sailfish's biggest threat on the mound is right-hander Josh Turner, who has struck out 12 in 11.2 innings pitched.
For coach
Marc Pavao, the choice of who to start on the mound could be tricky as both
Adrian Benitez and
Joeanthony Rivera had solid first outings last week for the Bucs.
Benitez struck out six in seven innings pitched in his first win of the year and had a 0.00 era as well in the Bucs' 14-2 victory over Tuskegee in the first game of the doubleheader Saturday.
Rivera had a career outing, striking out 12 in six innings pitched as the Bucs completed the doubleheader sweep against the Tigers with a 13-3 win.
At the plate, the Bucs look recapture the form of their performance against Tuskegee Saturday, which saw them have 28 hits and score 27 runs in two games and having a player like freshman
Kyle Pangallo will help.
In 10 at-bats this season, Pangallo has a .500 average, five hits, a team-leading two home runs, and six RBI. Also consistent for the Bucs is catcher
Greg Brodzinski, who has five hits and six RBI so far this season.
This game allows the Bucs a chance to compare themselves to another Floridian Division II school and will be a good rehearsal for when the Bucs travel in Sunshine State Conference play. First pitch is tonight at 6:00 pm.Â
