MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team earned its tenth win of the season with a 20-2 slaughtering of Florida Memorial. The win also extended the Bucs' winning streak to 10 games.
The Bucs (10-5) struck first in the second inning when
Matt Petty hit a solo homerun. The Lions (6-13) tied it up in the top of the third when Alex Pacheco hit a single and got home on a Frank Sigler single.
Florida Memorial would only score one more run, in the seventh, when Giovanni Rivera scored on an Erick Yglesias single. By that time Barry was up 12-2 and would score one more in the bottom of the seventh to go up 13-2.
Tyler King (1-0) earned the win for the Buccaneers, his first of the season. He worked five strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He struckout four and did not walk a batter. FMU's Richard Burns (0-2) was tagged for five runs (three earned) in three innings to take the loss. He gave up six hits, walked three and struck out two.
The Bucs return to action on Friday when they travel to Florida Tech to take on the Panthers in their first SSC game of the season.
