MIAMI Shores, Fla.— The Barry University baseball team moved to 5-5 on the season with an 8-7 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Tuesday night.
The Bucs struck first in the first inning when
Nick Shaw reached first on a walk. He reached third on a
Chris Leon double and home when the pitcher, Martin Suarez, balked.
PBA scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, but the Bucs tied it up, 2-2, in the bottom of the second on a
Drew Dwelly home run.
The Sailfish (1-8) scored five runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-4 lead.
Yet the Bucs hung in it scoring four of their own runs in the bottom of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead. Gutierrez,
Matt Petty,
Julio Ramos and Dwelly scored off of four hits and two errors.
Neither team would do much in the eighth, and the Bucs hung on to win 8-7.
Tyler King earned the win for the Buccaneers; he is 1-0 on the season.
Scott Sexton picked up his fifth save of the season.
The Bucs return to action on Thursday. February 25 at St. Thomas at 4:30 pm.
