MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University softball team (29-18, 11-8 SSC) took advantage of four Triton errors to pick up a 6-1 Sunshine State Conference win over the Eckerd Tritons (5-35, 0-19 SSC) earlier tonight at Buccaneer Field.
Kristina Lemon gave the Tritons an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning driving in the go ahead run with an RBI single. However, the Buccaneers bounced back and scored three times on a hit and three errors in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead. Barry added three more runs in the sixth for a 6-1 advantage and held on for the win.
Ramie Garcia (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) went 3.2 innings, gave up one run and struck out two, while Elizabeth Bennett (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) hurled the final 3.1 innings and struck out five to pick up the win and improved to 16-10 overall. Kristina Lemon (4-15) suffered the loss for the Tritons giving up six runs (two earned) and struck out six.
Cristina DeTagle (Fr., North Miami Beach, Fla.) went two-for-three with two RBI and scored once to lead Barry, while
Krista Latessa (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) added two RBI. Lemon went one-for-three to lead the Tritons.
Both teams will be back in action for the final two games of the series on Saturday, Apr. 23 at 2 pm.
