MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University softball team (27-16) ended a three-game losing skid with a double-header sweep over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (25-19-2) earlier tonight at Buccaneer Field. The Buccaneers won the opening game 1-0 and the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.

Ashley Loose (So., Mill Creek, Wash.) led off the third inning of game one with a walk and later came around to score after swiping her 15th consecutive stolen base of the year on a Katie Arnone (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) RBI single. That was all the Bucs needed as Ramie Garcia (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) hurled a two-hit shutout and struck out four to improve to 13-6. Kim Boardman (12-6) suffered the loss for the Sailfish giving up one run in six innings and allowed five hits.

In the nightcap, Holli Davis (Fr., Lake Havasu, Ariz) reached on an error to lead off the game and later scored on a Maile Keeney (So., Longwood, Fla.) RBI squeeze play to give Barry a 1-0 lead. The Bucs added three more runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and added another in the sixth for the 9-1 win.

Kim Fujimoto (Jr., Carmichael, Calif.) went two-for-two with an RBI to lead the Bucs at the plate, while Heather Hodges (Sr., Clearwater, Fla.) went two-for-three with two RBI. Keeney collected a team-high three RBI and Davis scored twice.

Elizabeth Bennett (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) picked up the win allowing just one run and struck out eight in six innings, while Palm Beach Atlantic's Casey Gibson (6-4) gave up nine runs (seven earned) and 11 hits in the loss.

The Buccaneers will be back in action on Friday, Apr. 22 in Melbourne, Fla. taking on Florida Tech in a Sunshine State Conference match-up at 3 pm.
