Cesar Aranguren hit a walk-off two-run homer to lift the Barry Buccaneers to a series sweep of the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Saturday. Barry swept the doubleheader on Saturday, winning both games 7-6, after winning 11-2 on Friday night.
In game one,
Chris Casale pitched brilliantly into the sixth inning. But in the seventh, the Tritons rallied for four run to tie the game 6-6 on Joe Milbury's two-run homer, his second of the game.
But in the bottom of the ninth, the Bucs loaded the bases with two outs and
Carlos de la Osa coaxed a walk from Triton reliever Mike Meagher to score
Brian Lima from third.
Mike Davila (6-1) pitched the Bucs out of trouble in the seventh and tossed two more innings, allowing only two singles. With the win, he moves to the top of the staff in victories. Steve Mathews (1-1) took the loss for Eckerd, allowing one run on two hits and three walks in 2.2 innings.
For Barry,
Alex Meneses led the way with three hits and scored two runs. Kieth Barton had two hits, two runs and two RBI.
In game two, Barry jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, scoring three unearned runs on two hits, taking advantage of two Triton errors. Meneses smashed a run-scoring double.
But the Tritons rebounded to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning on a three-run homer by Nick Byrd.
Barry regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI double by Aranguren, but could not hold it. The Triton set the game to extra innings 4-4 with a single run in the seventh on a base hit by Milbury which scored Chris Rosende who had walked to lead off the inning.
In the top of the 10th, Eckerd grabbed a 6-4 lead without benefit of a hit. Bordieri squeezed home Bill Evers and Joe Savino plated Casey Weseman with a sacrifice fly.
But in the bottom of the inning, Barry found the answer. Lima led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by
Fausto Faraldo. The Faraldo trotted home on Aranguren's blast, which made a winner of
Gerry Guarch (4-0). Guarch got the final two outs of the 10th, retiring both batters he faced.
Evers (3-3) took the loss for Eckerd. He pitched 3.2 innings in relief of starter Jason Wishin. He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout, after playing the first six innings in right field.
