Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against the Aggies of UC-Davis in a first round match-up at the Nike Invitational held at Buccaneer Field.

The Buccaneers (0-2-1) jumped out in front early on when freshman Ulla Matikainen placed a perfect pass on the foot of forward Tammie Thornton who found the back of the net from eighteen yards out at the 13:26 mark. The Aggies (0-1-1) responded shortly after, closing out the first half with a goal by Shannon Mally with 9:53 to play, however, neither team was able to break down the opponent's defense the rest of the way, forcing sudden death overtime.

In overtime, it was again defense that prevailed as nobody was able to score in two 10:00 minute periods forcing a tie.

Buccaneer keeper Johanna Fischer was solid throughout the entire match and tallied a total of nine saves, including two in overtime action.

The Buccaneers return to action Saturday evening at 5:00 pm when they play host to cross town rival St. Thomas University in their final match of the 2003 Nike Invitational.
