Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla.--The fourth-ranked Barry Buccaneers opened Sunshine State Conference play with a 3-0 win over the Florida Tech Panthers at the Clemente Center Thursday night. Game scores were 30-23, 30-16 and 30-27.
The Bucs jumped out early in game one 5-0, but the Panthers (4-10, 0-1 SSC) clawed their way back to take the lead 9-8. The teams traded leads to 18-18, when Barry reeled off six straight points behind the serving of Fernando Brino to go up 24-18.
In game two it was all Barry as the Bucs hit .500 in the frame, while holding Tech to .000 hitting.
Barry (9-2, 1-0 SSC) subbed freely in the third game, but came away with the win.
Fernanda Ferreira lead all hitters with 13 kills and 11 digs. Jessica Mirda and Natalia Acevedo each had seven kills for Tech.
Barry travels to Rollins on Saturday to face the Tars at 4:00 pm in the Alfond Center.
