Box Score GARDEN CITY, NY – The Barry University women's soccer team opened the 2003 season suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Southern Connecticut State University Owl's at Adelphi University.
The Buccaneers (0-1-0) fell behind early on when Southern's Jenny Wilkin recorded the Owl's first goal of the season after firing a shot from 25 yards out that slipped by Buccaneer keeper
Johanna Fischer at the 28:41 mark. The Bucs fought hard the rest of the way, but the one goal was all the Owl's (1-0-0) needed despite being out shot by the Buccaneers 14 to 7. Owl's keeper Jamie Shertzer, who seemed unfazed by the Bucs offensive pressure, proved to be the difference maker as she stopped a total of five shots on goal.
The Buccaneer defense was also solid allowing just two shots on goal the entire game with Fischer recording one save.
The Buccaneers have a day off tomorrow and will return to action Sunday at noon as they face off against Bryant College at Adelphi University before returning to Miami to host UC-Davis in their home opener on Thursday September 4th at 7:00 pm.
