Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Barry University baseball team concluded their 2003 season after being outslugged by the Eckerd Tritons earlier today. The Buccaneers lost both ends of the doubleheader 12-7 and 2-1.
Both teams exchanged runs in the first six innings, but the Buccaneers scored four runs taking a 7-3 lead in the seventh. The Tritons narrowed the gap by one in the bottom half of the seventh, but the Barry bullpen was unable to seal the win allowing eight runs on seven hits in the eighth as Eckerd held on for the 12-7 victory.
Reliever
Eric Flynn (0-2) took the loss in game one after giving up three runs on three hits in .2 innings of work. Starter
David Schmidt hurled the first 6.2 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. David Castellano (1-0) came in relief to pick up the win and hurled two innings giving up one unearned run and striking out two.
In the nightcap, both pitchers battled from the hill allowing a mere 11 total hits combined in the shortened seven inning contest. The Bucs took an early 1-0 lead in the second after a

Cesar Aranguren who led off the innings with a single. The Tritons tied the game in the fourth. Finally with runners at first and second with one out, Eckerd Sam DeVito ended the game with an RBI single as the Tritons went on to win 2-1.
Jon Sandola (3-7) gave up two runs and five hits in the loss for the Bucs. Jason Wishin (3-3) hurled the final five innings and struck out three to earn the win.
Arnanguren hit .500 in two games going three-for-six with two RBI to lead the Bucs at the dish.
Jerry Thornton followed going three-for-seven and hit .429. Senior
Billy Zoffinger hit his 26th double of the season in game one breaking Barry's single season record held by former Buccaneer standout Bill Reifsnider since 1990.
The Buccaneer conclude their 2003 campaign with an overall 18-35-1, 4-17 SSC, while the Tritons end oup 28-26, 9-12 SSC.
