Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University men's basketball team fell to Merrimack College 52-43 earlier today at the Health & Sports Center.
The Bucs (6-4) got off to a great start jumping out in front 11-0 at the 15:36 mark and at one point led by as much as 16-2. However, Merrimack (6-3) rallied back closing out the first half going on a 19-3 run to take a 21-19 lead into the break as the Bucs were unable to score in the final 8:00 of the half.
In the second half, the Bucs trailed closely for much of the way until the 3:43 mark when a two-point basket by Clifford Smith gave the Bucs a 41-40 lead with just 3:36 to play. However, the lead did not last long as Merrimack closed out the game going on a 12-2 run earn the 52-43 victory.
Nick Ellingsworth-Perez led the Bucs offensive attack with 13 points, while pulling down a team high 7 rebounds, while Clifford Smith followed with 10.
Merrimack's Craig Griffin led all scorers with 14 points and Bobby Murgo added 13.
The Bucs return to action on Saturday when they open up conference play at Tampa at 4:00 pm.
