Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers shook off a sluggish first half to trounce the Trojans of Virginia State 71-61 on the final day of the Palm Beach Hoops Challenge at Lynn University's de Hoernle Center on Friday night.

The Bucs carried a slim 24-22 lead into the half, despite leading scorer Nick Ellingsworth-Perez sitting the last 16 minutes of the period after picking up his second foul. Clifford Smith pumped in 11 points in the period to pace the Bucs.

In the second half, the Bucs quickly opened a nine-point lead with two buckets from Perez and a three-pointer by Smith. The Bucs never trailed the rest of the way, extending the lead to as many as 12 points on several occasions.

The story in the second half was the free throw line, where Barry out-scored the Trojans 21-7.

Perez lead all scorers with 21 points, 17 in the second half, while Smith chipped in with 18 for Barry (6-3). Ade' Mason and Hasan Abdul-Saboor each had 12 points to lead the Trojans (4-4).

Barry is off until Dec. 30 when they host Merrimack in the Health & Sports Center at 2:00 pm.
