Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team fell to the 18th-ranked Francis Marion Patriots 50-48 earlier today at the Palm Beach Hoops Classic hosted by Lynn University
The Buccaneers (5-3) exploded out of the gates with a 15-3 run in the first half, all due to Barry's Nick Perez's 13 points in the first eight minutes. However, the undefeated Patriots (9-0) narrowed the score to two with 1:25 remaining, and then took the lead 27-26 on a James McQueen three-point bucket at the buzzer.
Ryan Saunders gave the Bucs a one point lead on a lay-up just 1:46 into the second period also igniting a 7-0 run to start the half. However, the relentless Patriots battled back to tie the game at 35 apiece at the 13:04 mark, then hit paydirt going on a 11-2 run taking a 46-37 lead with nine minutes left to play. The Buccaneers tried to fight back, but fell in the final seconds 50-48.
Perez led the Buccaneer efforts with a game-high 15 points, while Saunders finished with 10. Jaquan Bracey was the only Patriot to hit double figure points leading Francis Marion with 11.
The Buccaneers will conclude their fall season at Palm Beach Hoops Classic facing Virginia State on Friday, Dec. 19 at 5 pm before diving head first into conference play.
