Box Score CARSON, Calif. -- For the first time since 1998, the 10th-ranked Barry University women's soccer team ventured to California and defeated 15th-ranked Cal-State Dominguez Hills earlier this afternoon 2-1.
A series of shots by the Bucs in the first five minutes paid off when
Olga Vargas posted a goal with an assist by Emilie Karlsson at 19:44 to put Barry up 1-0 in the first half. Diane Garza got the equalizer for the Toros at 33:24 to knot the game 1-1.
The Bucs retaliated in the second half when Vargas knocked in her second goal off a pass from Pam McDonald at 61:38 giving the Bucs a 2-1 lead.
Keeper
Johanna Fischer faced five shots on goal, making four saves and allowing one goal. Toro keeper, Alba Garcia faced six shots on goal registering four saves and allowing two goals.
The Buccaneers improved to 2-0-0, while the Toros fall to 2-1-0. The Bucs continue their California tour on Sept. 8 facing off with Cal-Poly Pomona at 11 am PDT.
