Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University baseball team concluded their 2002 season falling in a conference doubleheader to the Florida Southern Moccasins 18-6 in the first game and 5-2 in the nightcap.
In game one, the Mocs erupted with an 11 run third innings the capped things off with a five run ninth to take a 18-3. The Bucs sparked a late rally scoring three in the bottom of the ninth, but fell 18-6 to the Mocs.
The Mocs jumped in the board first in game two scoring a run in the first, but the Bucs responded and evened things up at one a piece on a Joey Apotheker solo homer in the bottom of the inning. The Mocs took a 2-1 lead in the third, but the Bucs were right back in the mix in the fourth tying the game 2-2. However, the Mocs' Logan Roberts sparked a three-run sixth with a lead off solo homer and brought the Buccaneers season to a close with a 5-2 loss.
In game one, Jonathan Sandola (3-3) took the loss for the Bucs giving up seven runs on six hit in 2.2 innings. Jesse Moody (9-1) earned the win for the Mocs hurling six innings and giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out four.
In game two, Keith Hameister (4-5) took the loss for the Bucs giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits, while striking out four. Justin Smetana (5-1) earned the Moc win giving up two runs in five innings and struck out five.
On the day, Joglys Ramos paced the Bucs' efforts going four-for-eight with two doubles and an RBI. Apotheker and Chris Casale both added a solo home run a piece, while Apotheker finished the day going three-for-eight with a homer and two RBI.
The Bucs wrapped up their 2002 campaign with a final record of 23-26 overall and 6-15 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Mocs improved to 38-12 overall and 14-7 in the SSC.
