Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Setting a new milestone, the Barry University men's basketball team won their ninth consecutive game to open the season, while overpowering the Franklin Pierce Ravens (2-7) 67-63 earlier this afternoon at the Palm Beach Sunshine Classic hosted by Lynn University.

The Buccaneers jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with 16:40 remaining in the first half, but the scrappy Raven team fought to claim the lead 16-14 at the 10:15 mark. The Ravens led for the remainder of the half, but a clutch three-pointer by Yorell Calderon brought the Bucs to within two at the buzzer. The Ravens led 33-31 at the half.

In the second half, the Bucs fought back to reclaim the lead 42-41 at 14:42 and never relinquished it. Down by 10 with less than four minutes left, the Ravens just would not go away. They narrowed the lead to four, but the Bucs were the victorious ones winning 67-63.

Yorell Calderon and Luis Vazquez-Bello paced the Buccaneers winning effort with 17 points, while Nick Ellingsworth-Perez added 11, and Bryan Mills 10. Calderon hit five of seven from behind the arc, while the team blistered the opposition shooting 54 percent from three-point range.

Derek Rogerson who scored a game-high 21 points paced the Ravens, 18 came in the second half.

At 9-0, the Buccaneers will play their last game before Christmas break on Saturday at the Palm Beach Sunshine Classic facing off with Indianapolis at 5 pm.
