Box Score DAVIS, Calif.--The Barry men's basketball team dropped their opener to the Humboldt State Lumberjacks 94-84 in the opening round of the Hamilton Classic in Davis, Calif., Friday night.
Five Buccaneers in double figures weren't enough to overcome an outstanding performance by HSU's Issac Gildea who scored a game-high 28 points, including seven of 10 from three-point range.
Lincoln Glasford led the Bucs with 17 points, hitting all seven of his shots from the field. Luis Vazquez-Bello added 14 points off the bench, while Ronald Lewis had 13, Andres Alfonso had 11 and Yorell Calderon had 10.
The Bucs trailed 50-42 at the half, but rallied to take a 56-54 lead with 16:36 to play. Coach Tom Wood of Humboldt State chose to start the second half with all five starters on the bench.
After the Bucs stretched the lead to 59-56, the Lumberjacks' starters returned and quickly built a 64-59 advantage. The Buccaneers were able to get as close as 69-67, before HSU pulled away by hitting eight of 10 free throws down the stretch.
Barry starts the season 0-1 and will take on the hostsfrom UC Davis at 6:00 pm tomorrow. Humboldt State begins its quest to return to the NCAA Tournament 1-0 and will face the BYU-Hawai'i Seadiders in the championship game at 8:00 pm.
