#11 Women's Volleyball Keeps Streak Alive Defeating Flyers in Four

Osychenko and Kozlova lead the way for Barry's fifth straight win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- In a short week for the Barry women's volleyball team, the Bucs pulled out their fifth straight win taking down the Lewis Flyers in four sets at the ICI Center for the Embry-Riddle Invitational.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: #11 Barry 3, Lewis 1
Records: Barry (5-2), Lewis (6-4)
All-Time Series: Barry leads series 4-1

SUMMARY:

  • Set One – Varvara Osychenko got the match going quickly with a service ace. Barry had four blocks before the Flyers had three points. Ivana Žujovic had a hand in three of the four. The Bucs were able to hold a lead by as much as 11 before the tides started turn. A 10-run had Lewis quickly back into the set and leading late and even holding set point first. The Flyers ended up taking the set in deuce and the match lead. | Lewis 26, Barry 24
  • Set Two – Valeriya Kozlova got the Bucs going in the second set with a kill. Sofya Toropova and Petra Brkicic used their service game to pick up service ace to help build a six-point lead. It was a smooth finish the rest of the way as Kozlova led the set with five kills and a service ace. Zujovic led the defense again with three block assists. | Barry 25, Lewis 20
  • Set Three – Toropova had the Bucs scoring the first point in the third straight set with a kill. May McConnell came in to serve and executed with an ace of her own. A late 4-0 run gave Barry enough distance to take the two-set lead and put themselves back in the driver's seat. Kozlova led with another six kills in the set. Frankie Good had a block solo and two assists. | Barry 25, Lewis 18
  • Set Four – In the final set it looked as if Lewis found a groove early taking a 3-1 lead. But, Osychenko had other plans knocking down back-to-back kills to tie things up at three-all. Kozlova flipped the scoreboard with a kill of her own. An 8-1 run ultimately would be the difference maker in the set as the trio of Osychenko, Kozlova, and Zujjovic kicked it into high gear and all three contributed with a block and kill. Toropova closed out the match with a kill. | Barry 25, Lewis 14
