WALTHAM, Ma. -- Another tough matchup at the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament had the Buccaneer women's volleyball team fall just short. Barry took their second loss of the season in against Grand Valley State in five sets after winning the first and fourth.

SUMMARY:
- Set One – The offense once again had a hot start to the match, rallying off six straight points. Ivana Žujovic had the first kill, while Veronika Eremeeva and Sofya Toropova both tacked on one each in the run. Barry ran away with the set and hit .480 on 13 kills to take the match lead. The defense forced nine attack errors and a .000 hitting percentage, with two blocks. | Barry 25, GVSU 16
- Set Two – Sarah Willey came in and kept the momentum going in the second set with a service ace. It was a tight battle at the start, but the Lakers were able to flip the scoreboard at 6-5 and take control of the set from there. Barry was able to work their way back into it and make it a one-point game at 15-16 but were unable to make the flip. Varvara Osychenko led the set with six kills on 10 swings.  | GVSU 25, Barry 20
- Set Three – The Bucs looked to regain the match lead and were well on their way to doing so until Grand Valley State rallied off eight straight points to close out set three. Barry led 21-17 and were unable to score again. Despite hitting .344 on just two attacking errors, GVSU took the set hitting .429 with 21 kills. | GVSU 25, Barry 21
- Set Four – GVSU took that momentum and jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The whole dug as deep as five down, before Barry kicked it back into gear. A 6-1 run had the set all tied up at 17. The scoreboard finally turned at 20-19 and stayed in favor of the Bucs the rest of the way, setting up the winner take all fifth set. | Barry 25, GVSU 22
- Set Five – It was a tight fifth set and came down to the final five points as it was tied at 10-all. The Bucs took the first advantage but then had to work from behind the rest of the way. GVSU would end up taking the match closing it out with a kill. | GVSU 15, Barry 13
NOTEWORTHY:
- Three Buccaneers were in double figures for kills.
- Osychenko led the way with a match-high 18 kills and recorded a double-double with 12 digs.
- Eremeeva and Toropova followed suit with 17 and 10 kills, respectively.
- Libero Kae Sato had 17 digs for her Buccaneer-high.
- Willey led the service game with three aces.
- Thalia Iglesias led the setter role with 32 assists and added three kills.
- Barry led in blocks at 9-5.

The Buccaneers will close out at the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament against host, 22-ranked Bentley on Saturday at 9:00am.
