Baseball Loses A Pair To Sailfish On Senior Day

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost both ends of the doubleheader 9-8 and 22-6 in seven innings in their Sunshine State Conference baseball series against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Feinbloom Field on Saturday.

  • T1 - The Sailfish jumped out in front in the first inning off Barry starter Mason Blocker (1-3). Jake McNamara scored on a ground ball by Brandon Castellon. | PBA 1, Barry 0
  • T2 - Aaron Vetter singled, stole second and scored on a single by Santi Scheele. | PBA 2, Barry 0
  • B2 - Anthony Tralongo walked and later scored on a single by Blake Opie. | PBA 2, Barry 1
  • T3 - Carter Parent hit a two-run homer, his first of the season. | PBA 4, Barry 1
  • T5 - Parent singled and stole second. He scored on the first homer of the season for Steven Serna. Vetter, who walked, later scored on a fly out by McNamara. | PBA 7, Barry 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Gavin Ingram (1-2) got the win when starter Nolan Larson failed to go five innings with his lead. Ingram allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.
  • Blocker took the loss, allowing six runs on 11 hits and a walk in four innings.
  • Jack Mischke came in with a run across and no outs in the ninth and managed to hold on to the lead for his first save.
  • McNamara, Holmes, Parent and Steven Serna all had three hits for PBA, with Carter driving in four on a pair of homers.
  • Smith led Barry with three hits, all doubles, while Opie drove in three runs.

  • T1 - The Sailfish jumped all over the Bucs from the start in game two. Trey Mirnada doubled to lead off the game. Patrick Rakes cashed him in with a double of his own. After an error and a walk to Parent loaded the bases, Andrew Fernandez doubled in a pair of runs. | PBA 4, Barry 0
  • T2 - Finley Holmes drove in two with a single and Parent had an RBI single of his own. | PBA 7, Barry 0
  • B2 - Delapenha doubled with two outs and scored on an error by Miranda. | PBA 7, Barry 1
  • T3 - The Sailfish scored five runs on four hits in the third. McNamara had an RBI single. Rakes doubled in one run. Holmes hit a ground rule double to right center for two more and later scored on an error, by Dyson Joseph. | PBA 12, Barry 1
  • B3 - Smith doubled with one out and scored on a single by Mendez. Opie drove in Mendaez with a double to left center. | PBA 12, Barry 3
  • T4 - PBA put up anther five runs in the fourth. Santi Scheele hit a two-run homer. Holmes had an RBI single to left, which then got past Delapenha, allowing another run to score and Holmes to go to third. Parent tripled down the right field line to score Holmes. | PBA 17, Barry 3
  • B4 - Pinch runner Aidan Heffner scored on a ground out and, after another double by Smith, Tralongo drove in a pair with a single to center. | PBA 17, Barry 6
  • T5 - McNamara hit a three-run homer, his first of the season, to extend the lead. | PBA 20, Barry 6
  • T7 - The 'Fish scored to more in the sevneth on a passed ball and a single by Holmes. | PBA 22, Barry 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Elijah Budiac (4-7) went six innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on 11 hits and a walk to get the win in game two.
  • Dane Wright ( 1-3) took the loss after giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk in the first inning. 
  • Miranda went 4-for-4 and scored four times for PBA.
  • Holmes had four hits and drove in six, while McNamara drove in four.
  • Smith went 3-for-4 with two more doubles to pace Barry.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry head to Melbourne, Fla., to face the Florida Tech Panthers next weekend.
