Men's Tennis Powers Past Temple

Orlando, Fla. -- The Barry University men's tennis team completed their final day in Orlando on Friday, March 6th, with a 6-1 win against Temple University. This marks the team's 12th consecutive win of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Cavalleri and Trione made quick work on court one, defeating their opponents 6-1, giving Barry the early lead in doubles.
  • Kodjoed and Chapuis followed with a 6-2 victory, sealing the deal and securing the doubles point for the Bucs.
  • With the top and bottom flights finished, the doubles match on court two was left unfinished, and Barry started singles with a 1-0 advantage
  • In singles, Machado was the first to finish, only letting up two points to his opponent in the entire match and extending Barry's lead to 2-0. 
  • Kodjoed was the next Buc to complete his match, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court one, putting the Bucs only one point away from clinching.
  • On court three, Lynch defeated Cochran to clinch the match for the Bucs.
  • Chapuis then added another point to Barry's total by defeating Crespi 6-2, 6-4.
  • Azoulay then finished his match, giving the Bucs their final point of the match.
  • Cooper was the final Buc to finish and was defeated in two tiebreaker sets, giving Temple its first and only point of the match, making the final score 6-1 Barry.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Machado leads the team in singles victories for the year with nine consecutive wins
  • Kodjoed is currently on an eight-match win streak 
  • Azoulay is also on a win streak in singles with six consecutive wins.
  • Lynch is 7-1 in the last eight games and is on a five-match win streak. 
  • As a duo, Machado and Lynch are on a seven-match win streak.
  • This is the Bucs first time playing against Temple.

The Bucs are looking for another conference win on Saturday, March 7th, as they compete against no. 20 Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.
