Softball Falls to Lions in SSC Play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  Saturday's double header action of Barry Softball against Saint Leo ended with the Lions sweeping the day and the conference series over the Bucs. It is the first Sunshine State series loss for the Buccaneers this season.

SUMMARY (Game One):

  • T1 - A leadoff walk came around to score the first run of the game. Then three straight one-out singles brought in the second run. | Saint Leo 2, Barry 1
  • B1 - The Buccaneers scored their first run of the series with Serah Shafer drawing a walk. She followed with a stolen base and moved to third on a passed ball. Sarah Langlie then drew a two-out walk and in trying to cause chaos Shafer stole home.
  • T2 - Saint Leo was able to gain a huge gap on the scoreboard as they put up a three spot in the top of the second. A two-out rally was started with a five-pitch walk. A single brought up Abigail Haynes who then used the wind to send one over the left field fence for a two-run shot. | Saint Leo 5, Barry 1
  • T5 - After a quiet two frames, the Lions added another run in the top of the fifth as a one-out double was followed up with an RBI-single. | Saint Leo 6, Barry 1
  • T6 - SLU added their final two runs of the ball game in the top of the sixth. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 1
  • B6 - The Buccaneers were able to score their second run of the game without having a hit. A hit by pitch and two walks loaded the bases. Chandler Barry then drew another walk for Cameron Marchese to come around and score. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 2
  • B7 - Down to their final three outs, Barry was able to finally get their first hit of the contest as Shelby Prevatte singled up the middle. Mya Tucker was also able to get a hit in the contest. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 2

NOTEWORTHY (Game One):

  • The Buccaneers were no-hit through 6.1 innings.
  • Prevatte has reached safely on 10 straight games.
  • Chloe Barber came in a threw a scoreless frame in the seventh inning.
  • The Bucs stranded six runners on the base path.

SUMMARY (Game Two):

  • B1 - Barry grabbed their first lead of the weekend series with a four spot in the bottom of the first. The bats sparked for five hits in the inning with the Bucs batting around. Maggie Boyd delivered the big hit with a single up the middle for two-RBI. | Barry 4, Saint Leo 0
  • T3 - The Lions were able to make it a one run game with a three-run third. | Barry 4, Saint Leo 3
  • T4 - Saint Leo tied the game with a lead off home run to deep left field. They then took their first lead which would end up being the game-winning run with a two-out single. | Saint Leo 5, Barry 4
  • T5 - For the third straight inning the Lions scored a crooked number. Another three-spot gave them more than enough insurance. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 4
  • T6 - A final run was tacked on the in the top of the sixth. | Saint Leo 9, Barry 4

NOTEWORTHY (Game Two):

  • The offense had more hits in the third game than the two first games combined at eight.
  • Mya Tucker had two hits to lead the way in the top spot.
  • Vivian Billard came in relief and threw 1.1 scoreless. She had two hits and two pinch outs.
  • This is the first SSC series loss for Barry on the year and they have lost six straight to SLU dating back to last season.

ON THE HORIZON:

The series will head up to St. Petersburg to take on Eckerd on Friday, March 27 for their next three game league series.
