Women’s Tennis Outlasts SCAD Atlanta in Thrilling Victory

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  The Barry University women's tennis team continued its dominant home stretch this weekend, defeating SCAD Atlanta 4–2 to extend its perfect home record. The victory marks the Bucs third consecutive home win, pushing their overall win streak to six matches and improving to 6–0 at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • SCAD struck first in doubles play, taking an early lead with a 6-2 win on court two as Brun and Sperb fell to Vera and Leijten.
  • SCAD then came away with the doubles point after Whalen and Brasil were defeated by Becoude and Eloundou 6-1 on court three. 
  • With the point decided, the match on court one went unfinished, and Barry entered singles trailing 0-1. 
  • In singles, Sperb quickly evened the score, earning a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win over Stojanovi on court three.
  • Brasil followed with an identical 6-2, 6-2 victory on court five against Kluska, giving the Bucs a 2-1 lead. 
  • SCAD responded on court one, where Nikolova fell to Talbi 6-2, 6-4, tying the match at 2-2. 
  • Barry regained control on court six as Martinez battled through a tight contest, taking the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6(5) before closing out the second set 6-4 to put the Bucs ahead 3-2. This put the Bucs just one point shy of clinching.
  • Whalen then delivered the clinching point on court four, overcoming a slow start to defeat Eloundou. After dropping the first set 2-6, she responded with back-to-back set wins 6-1, 6-3 to secure the match for Barry.
  • With the match clinched, the match on court two was left unfinished. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Brun is on a three-match win streak and has won four of her last five matches.
  • Sperb is also on a three-match win streak.
  • The Bucs are undefeated at home this season. 

ON THE HORIZON

The Bucs will continue action at home alongside the men's tennis team on Saturday, March 21st, at 10:00 am against Valdosta State.
