MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- It was known that there was going to be a battle in the Health and Sports Center Gym on Monday afternoon after a strong four-setter on Friday night between Barry Men's Volleyball and Manhattan. The show did not disappoint as it was topped with a five setter, only this time the Buccaneer fell in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Set One – Manhattan scored the first two points of the match off two errors from the Bucs. Philip Tein was able to finally get Barry on the board with a kill. Manhattan led the whole way three and took the first set for the match lead. The Buccaneer offense had more kills at 15-13, but errors and defense were what set the Bucs behind. | Manhattan 25, Barry 19
- Set Two – The Jaspers jumped on the board first and took a huge lead off a 13-4 start. The Buccaneers slowly chipped away after being down 19-9 and brought all the way back to a two-point set at 23-21 with a 12-4 run. A service error ended the comeback but got the Bucs back in the match. Both teams struggled on the attack but added in the defense with three blocks each. | Manhattan 25, Barry 22
- Set Three – With the momentum carrying over, the Buccaneers grabbed the lead first in set three. Tomas Pastika added spark off the bench and started the set; he delivered immediately with a service ace. Barry held the lead from start to finish and stayed alive to push for a fourth set. Jeremy Ferreira ended the set with a block solo. Pastika had five kills in the set and hit .500 with just one error. Jacob Strnisa had seven kills in the set and all it .500. It was the highest offensive set for both teams, the Bucs hit .538 on 16 kills. | Barry 25, Manhattan 21
- Set Four – The fun continued as Zachary Jabr got the set started with a kill. Joao Piazza Baumgartem got the second point with a service ace. Both teams held the lead at one point or another in the set and the Jaspers were looking to close out, and the Bucs extend. Manhattan held the advantage late at 22-17. But the Buccaneers did not go away. A service error flipped it to Barry who then had a block, ace, and kill for four straight points. Strnisa and Jabr then did what they do best and got three straight kills that tied the set up at 23-all. Heading into deuce and fending off two match points, Jabr secured a service ace to set this to a winner take all fifth set. | Barry 28, Manhattan 26
- Set Five – Manhattan jumped out to the lead first with back-to-back kills. The first nine points in the set were determined off kills. Heading into the court flip, the Bucs held advantage at 8-7. That was the last time Barry would lead as Manhattan went on a 8-2 run to close it out. The Jaspers had three blocks to the Bucs none in the set, which helped swing momentum. | Manhattan 15, Barry 10
NOTEWORTHY:
- Piazza Baumgartem broke his career-high just one match after setting it. He now has the most assists in a match in program history, the first to surpass 50 in a match.
- He had his third double-double of the season adding a team-leading 14 digs.
- Strnisa had a new career-high in kills with 22, it is his second 20-plus game this season.
- It sets a new Barry program record for kills In a match, surpassing Colton Beres 21 kills set on January 9th, 2025.
- His 26 points in the match is also a program record.
- Pastika set a new career-highs in kills (13), digs (5) and blocks (2).
- Jabr helped the offense with 11 kills and two service aces.
- The Bucs had the advantage in kills 63-61, assist 61-55, and digs 43-41.
- Manhattan out-blocked Barry 13.5 to 9.5.
- New team records were set in kills and assists.
- Barry is 2-3 overall in five set matches.
