Langlie Leads Softball In Double Header Sweep of Eagles

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry Softball team secured their second straight Sunshine State Conference series victory. The Bucs took down Embry Riddle from Buccaneer Field on Friday afternoon in a double header sweep. Barry takes the overall series lead over the Eagles with the win in game two.

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS:

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE):
  • B3 - Barry cracked the egg first with back to back singles to lead off the bottom of the third. Sarah Langlie loaded the bases with a one-out single. Chandler Barry drove in the first run with a single to left field. Vivian Billard followed suit with a two-run single to right center. Embry Riddle escaped the inning with no further damage, stranding two. | Barry 3, ERAU 0
  • T4 - The Eagles took back a run with a lead off home run to right field. | Barry 3, ERAU 1
  • B4 - Serah Shafer and Mya Tucker bunted their way onto the base path. A double steal had them both in scoring position. Langlie delivered the big hit with a single to straight away center that brought them both in and added onto the lead. | Barry 5, ERAU 1
  • T6 - Embry Riddle scratched for a run in the top of the sixth as an error came around to score. | Barry 5, ERAU 2
  • B6 - The Buccaneers were able to pack on three more  runs to put the game away one final time. Three straight singles by Harper Bunn, Shafer, and Tucker loaded up the bases quickly. Langlie once again delivered this time with extra bases. The sophomore had a double down the right field line to bring in two. Barry immediately drove in the next run with a single to center. | Barry 8, ERAU 2
NOTEWORTHY (GAME ONE):
  • Shafer, Tucker, an Langlie all collected three hit games.
  • Barry, Billard, and Bunn had two hits a piece.
  • Langlie drove in half the runs to the Bucs.
  • Barry and Billard split the difference of RBI.
  • Alexis Martin went the distance picking up her fifth win of the season.
  • The junior had four strike outs, with just one earned up and no walks allowed.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):
  • T1 - Embry Riddle got their offense going out the gate. The Eagles had two straight singles to lead off the game. An error aided in an extra base runner. A single through the right side brought in one run l. A base loaded walk rang in the second. | ERAU 2, Barry 0
  • B1 - The Bucs went to work and evened it up in the bottom half. Shafer bunted her way on and then stole second. Tucker was hit by a pitch and a wild pitch advanced them both. Langlie stayed hot with her third RBI-hit of the afternoon. She drove in two with a single to left center to tie the game up.
  • B3 - Barry gained the lead for the first time in the game with a three run third. To no surprise, Sarah Langlie drove in Tucker for one. Cameron Marchese drove in two later in the inning with a single to right center. | Barry 5, ERAU 2
  • T4 - The Eagles continued to stay in it with a run in the top of the fourth. A two-out rally sparked and three straight hits brough in the run. | Barry 5, ERAU 3
  • B4 - Barry put up another crocked number in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run double from Langlie and an RBi-single from Chandler Barry. | Barry 8, EARU 3
  • T5 - It was a big top of the fifth for Embry Riddle as they battled back into the game with three runs. It kept the game within range. | Barry 8, ERAU 5
  • T6 - A two run home run cut the Eagles deficit to one run. | Barry 8, ERAU 7
  • The final insurance runs came in the bottom of the sixth as Langlie and Barry both picked up another RBI. | Barry 10, ERAU 7

NOTEWORTHY (GAME TWO):

  • Langlie was on a heater driving in six runs for a new career-high.
  • The sophomore went 4-for-4 and scored two runs off her own, the first four-hit game of the season, and second of her career.
  • Barry and Marchese drove in two each.
  • Shafer had another three hit game and Tucker collected two hits. 
  • Tucker currently rides a six game hit streak and has reached safely in 19 straight.
  • Harper Bunn has reached in seven straight.
  • Isabel Vera picked up her second win of the season.
  • Martin returned and had a scoreless inning of work for the save in the seventh, with two punch outs.
  • The Bucs have won five straight over the Eagles and take the overall series lead.
ON THE HORIZON
The Buccaneers will wrap up the series with a single game tomorrow against Embry Riddle. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
