Men's Tennis Topples Knights to Move to 2-0 in Conference Play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University men's tennis team took on their conference rivals, the Lynn Fighting Knights, this Tuesday, Feb. 24, and defeated them 6-1 to move to a perfect regular season score of 8-0 and a conference score of 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bucs took the doubles lead as Machado and Lynch took court two in a 6-3 win. 
  • The Knights evened out the doubles score after defeating Kodjoed and Chapius. 
  • Lynn then took the doubles point with Trione and Dillon losing in a tie breaker 7-6(2).
  • The Bucs started off the singles down 0-1.
  • In Singles, Lynch was the first to win his match. This evened the score for Barry 1-1. 
  • Azoulay followed, defeating Rila 6-4, 6-2, putting the Bucs in the lead.
  • Machado was the third to finish after winning the first set 6-3, then going on to win the second 7-5. This put the Bucs one point away from clinching.
  • Chapius clinched the match for the Bucs with his win against Cortimiglia. 
  • With the win in the Bag the final two matches were Trione on court two and Kodjoed on court one.
  • Trione won his match after ending the first set with a tiebreaker and finishing the second set 6-2. 
  • Kodjoed finished last after a close game, losing the first set and winning the second in a ten-point tie breaker 1-0(10)

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs haven't lost to Lynn since the 2024 season 
  • In conference matches, the Bucs are 21-5 against Lynn
  • Machado is on the largest win streak out of all Bucs, which is a seven-match win streak 
  • Kodjoed is on a five-match win streak 
  • Chipus is also on a five-match win streak 
  • In doubles, Machado and Lynch are currently on a five-match win streak

The Bucs will travel to St. Leo, Fla., to compete in their third conference match-up of the season against the Saint Leo Lions at the Saint Leo Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 28th
