Women's Tennis Moves to the Finals of ITA Indoor Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. --  The top-ranked Barry Women's Tennis team played in the ITA Indoor Championship Semifinal today and defeated fifth-ranked University of West Alabama, moving the Bucs regular season streak up to six straight and pushing them into the finals of the ITA Indoor Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bucs took the doubles lead with Dema and Nikolova making quick work on court three.
  • After dropping the top flight, Anger and Heimen clinched the doubles point in a deuce tie breaker 8-6.
  • Barry started singles up 1-0 
  • Dema won her match first, with a straight set victory in her second set. This made the score 2-0 for Barry 
  • Michalitsch defeated Ibrahim after three sets, putting the Bucs one point away from clinching 
  • Heimen was defeated by Rivera 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, giving UWA their first and only point of the match 
  • Crespo clinched the match for Barry after losing the tie breaker 7-6(5) in the first set, but winning the final two sets 6-4, 7-5.
  • She upset sixth ranked Milliam on the second flight.
  • With the match clinched, the rest of the singles are left unfinished

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs are on a six-match win streak against UWA 
  • Barry is also on a 29 match winning streak, dating back to the 2025 season where they ended on a 23-match win streak. 

ON THE HORIZON

The Bucs will play West Florida next in the finals to see who will take home the ITA Indoor Championship win on Sunday, Feb. 22nd.
