DAVIE, Fla. – Sunshine State Conference play has begun as the Barry Softball team traveled across county lines to take on Nova Southeastern in the league opener. The Buccaneers were able to take the series opener over the Sharks 7-6 on Friday evening from the NSU Softball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- T1 – The scoring started quickly for the Bucs as they saw themselves up four runs in the opening frame. A two-out rally started with Mya Tucke singling to right field. She then stole second and came home on an RBI-single from Sarah Langlie. Freshmen, Vivian Billard had a three-run shot to right field for the exclamation point in the inning. | Barry 4, NSU 0
- B4 | Nova Southeastern was able to get on the board and cut their deficit to one with a three run bottom of the fourth. Two doubles and s single aided in the run scoring. Isabel Vera came into relief and got the final out to stop the bleeding. | Barry 4, NSU 3
- T6 | Barry earned much needed insurance in the top of the sixth with a three-spot. Mia Lucey had a lead-off walk, an error had Serah Shafer and Lucey in scoring position, and Tucker loaded the bases with a walk. Langlie had the big hit with a double down the left field line to score two. Billard has a sacrifice fly to bring in what would end up being the game winning run. | Barry 7, NSU 3
- B6 | NSU continued to fight and immediately gained back the three runs they just gave up. A walk, a double, and a triple opened the inning. Alexis Martin then came into relief in the circle and quickly earned a punch out. She was able to get out of the jam with allowing just one run. | Barry 7, NSU 6
NOTEWORTHY:
- Langlie led the offense going 3-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI. She also drew a walk and is riding an eight-game hitting streak.
- Billard now leads the team in home runs at four, she drove in four of the seven on the night.
- Tucker has reached safely in 15-straight.
- Martin earned the save and had a multi-hit game.
- Vera earned her first win of the season.
- Samantha Rosenberger started and had six strikeouts, tying a career-high.
