DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Barry Softball closed out the Gold City Classic presented by Mizuno breaking even at 2-2 for the weekend. The Buccaneers run-ruled Northwood for the second straight day, this time via a shutout. The second game was a battle against eighth-ranked North Georgia, but Barry came up just short falling 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED (NORTHWOOD):
- T2 – The second inning got started with a lead-off double from Vivian Billard to get the offense going. Kiera Strub was hit by a pitch and Maggie Boyd drew a walk to quickly load the bases with no outs. Cameron Marchese delivered the timely hit with a double to right field to clear the bases and put Barry ahead. | Barry 3, Northwood 0
- T3 – Shelby Prevatte came in as a pinch runner and quickly went to work on the base path stealing second and advancing to third on the throw. Boyd drew another walk and drew a diversion to score Prevatte on the play. | Barry 4, Northwood 0
- T4 – The offense had a big break out inning putting up seven to put into effect the run-rule. Chandler Barry was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to push a run across. Billard then came to the plate and delivered the blast to center for her second career grand slam. The Bucs were able to load them up again with two-away and Serah Shafer had a single up the middle to score in Prevatte. | Barry 11, Northwood 0
NOTEWORTHY (NORTHWOOD):
- Billard hit her third home run of the season.
- The freshmen went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored adding a double.
- Cameron Marchese had a multi-hit game as well with three RBI and a double.
- Alexis Martin went the distance and threw a one-hitter shutout, walking just one.
- It is the fifth run-rule win this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (NORTH GEORGIA):
- B1 – North Georgia took the first lead of the game with two in the bottom of the first inning. Back-to-back two out walks came around to score on a double to right field. Billard was able to get the relay into Shafer who threw out the runner at third trying to stretch a triple. | UNG 2, Barry 1
- T2 – Chandler Barry had a solo shot to lead-off the top of the second. This gave the Bucs their first run against the Nighthawks on the weekend. | UNG 2, Barry 1
- B2 – UNG tacked on three more runs in the bottom half to regain space. An error aided on run and a ground out drove in the second one. | UNG 5, Barry 1
- T3 – Mya Tucker led the inning off with a single. Sarah Langlie then tripled to right center to bring in Tucker. Barry had a sacrifice fly to follow to bring in Langlie. | UNG 5, Barry 3
- B3 – A solo shot for North Georgia was able to get one of the runs back given up in the previous half inning. | UNG 6, Barry 3
- T6 – The Buccaneers were able to make this a one run game. Marchese each on an error, Harper Bunn followed with a single right behind. Shafer then doubled to right center bringing home Marchese. Tucker was inches away from the lead hitting a double off the left field fence that brought in another run. | UNG 6, Barry 5
- B6 – Once again UNG was able to give themselves some insurance as a lead-off walk came around to score the final run of the game. | UNG 7, Barry 5
NOTEWORTHY (NORTH GEORGIA):
- Shafer extends her on base streak to 16-straight, with a 10-game hitting streak.
- Tucker has reached in 14 straight.
- Chandler Barry collected her eighth two-RBI game this season.
- Barry also had her team-leading fourth long ball of the season.
- The Bucs stranded eight runners on the base path.
- Barry is 2-4 against ranked opponents this season.
ON THE HORIZON
The Buccaneers will head home and begin Sunshine State Conference play on the road at Nova Southeastern. The three-game series begins on Friday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m.
