Softball Opens Up Play At The Gold City Classic

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Barry Softball team traveled up to North Georgia to compete in the Gold City Classic sponsored by Mizuno. The Bucs took game one against the Northwood Timberwolves in run-rule fashion but fell to the eighth-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks in the night cap.

HOW IT HAPPENED (NORTHWOOD):
  • B2 – After the pitching staff retired six straight, the offense jumped on the board with a two-run bottom of the second. Sarah Langlie got the inning started with a lead-off double. Vivian Billard then drew a one-out walk, that followed up with a Kiera Strub double to left center that scored them both. | Barry 2, Northwood 0
  • T3 – The first two runners reach for the Timberwolves as they scratched for a run to cut the lead in half. A two-out single scored the runner in. | Barry 2, Northwood 1
  • B3 – Barry tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third off back-to-back solo home runs from the sophomore duo of Mya Tucker and Langlie with two-outs. | Barry 4, Northwood 1
  • B5 – Chandler Barry singled to left field and advanced to second on an error to put herself in scoring position. Strub came up with a two-out RBI-single that scored Barry to extend the lead. | Barry 5, Northwood 1
  • B6 – The offense ended the game early exploding for five runs in the bottom of the six. Cameron Marchese had a lead-off double as Isabel Vera drew a walk right behind. A sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring position. Tucker and Langlie had back-to-back doubles to drive in runs. Chandler Barry had the big blast with a shot over the left field fence to put the game away. | Barry 10, Northwood 1
NOTEWORTHY (NORTHWOOD):
  • This is the Bucs third multi-home run game this season.
  • It is the second run-rule victory that ends in a walk off.
  • It is the fourth run-rule win this season.
  • Tucker and Langlie hit their first home runs of the season.
  • Barry hit her team-leading third home run.
  • Four Buccaneers had multi-hit games with Langlie and Barry having three hits apiece, Tucker and Strub had two.
  • Billiard picked up her second win, going four innings, allowing three hits and an earned run and two walks, while striking out three.
  • Samantha Rosenberger relieved for two innings, not allowing a single hit, walking two, and punching out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED (NORTH GEORGIA):
  • B1 – North Georgia jumped on the board and got to scoring early with a three-run shot in the bottom of the first. | UNG 3, Barry 0
  • B2 – It was another three-run inning for the Nighthawks as an error and walk aided to the bases loaded. A single to left drove in two and a ground out brought in the last run in the inning and UNG continued to extend. | UNG 6, Barry 0
  • B3 – For the third straight inning North Georgia put up three-runs. Three errors scored the runs off just two hits. | UNG 9, Barry 0
  • B4 | The Nighthawks tacked on two final runs to put the game way out of reach. A solo shot led off the inning and then a walk came around to score on a double. | UNG 11, Barry 0
NOTEWORTHY (NORTH GEORGIA):
  • Serah Shafer has reached safely in all 14 games this season.
  • Tucker has reach safely in 12 straight, while also riding an 11-game hit streak to lead the team.
  • This is the third time the Bucs have been run-ruled this season.
  • Barry is 2-3 against ranked opponents this season.

The Buccaneers will wrap up the Gold City Classic with a rematch against both teams tomorrow. Northwood at 11:00am and North Georgia at 1:30pm.
