Baseball Snatches Victory Over Owls

Bucs rally from 6-0 down for 10-7 win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers baseball team snatched a victory from the Southern Connecicut State Owls 10-7 on Friday night at Feinbloom Field in the first game of a three-game set.

  • T2 - Jake Chacho beat out an infield single with two outs. He stole second and went to third on a throwing error. He later scored on a double steal. | SCSU 1, Barry 0
  • T3 - Matt Scalia doubled to lead off the inning and went to third when the Bucs' right fielder let the ball get away. Scalia scored on a ground out. | SCSU 2, Barry 0
  • T5 - Scalia singled with two outs, advanced to third on an error and scored on a single by Devin Pelletier. | SCSU 3, Barry 0
  • T6 - Chacho hit a two-run homer and the Owls later scored another run on a throwing error. | SCSU 6, Barry 0
  • B6 - The Bucs finally got on the board in the sixth. Blake Opie and Anthony Tralongo led off with back-to-back doubles. Josh Hungler reached on an error by Owl third baseball Nick Karras, allowing Tralongo to score. Hungler eventually came in on a sacrifice fly by Dyson Joseph. | SCSU 6, Barry 3
  • B7 - The Bucs took the lead with four runs in the seventh. The Bucs loaded the bases with one out on a single by Opie, a hit batter to Tralongo and a nine-pitch walk to Christian Perez. One out later, Joseph ripped a single up the middle to cut the lead to one. Zavier Hatfield tripled to left center to give Barry the lead. | Barry 7, SCSU 6
  • T8 - The owl tied the game with a two-out rally in the eighth. Scalia doubled to right. After a hit batter and a walk loaded the bases, Spencer Chard beat out an infield single to bring in Scalia with the tying run. | Barry 7, SCSU 7
  • B8 - The Bucs finally put the game away in the bottom of the inning. Opie was hit by pitch by Owl reliever Harry Roy (0-1) to lead off the frame. Ben Rhode came in to run for him and promptly stole second. Tralongo followed with an RBI single to put the Bucs up. The Owls gifted Barry a pair of runs on the next play. Perez singled up the middle, but Chacho over-ran the ball in center, allowing Tralongo to score and second baseman Alex Cappellucci threw the ball away at third, giving Perez the plate. | Barry 10, SCSU 7  

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Robert Boing (2-0) was the beneficiary of the eighth inning rally after getting the final out in the top of the eighth, with a fly out to center. 
  • John Perozzi worked a perfect ninth, striking out Auggie Albert to end the game, for his third wave.
  • Roy took the loss. In 1.1 innings, he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and a hit batsman. 
  • Hatfield and Opie each had three hits for the Bucs, with Hatfield driving in two and Opie scoring two.
  • Tralongo went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
  • Joseph led the Bucs with three RBI.
  • Scalia swung a hot bat for the Owls, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored.
  • Chacho and Pelletier each had two hits.
  • The Bucs have won all six meetings with the Owls.
  • Rhode, who has appeared in three games as a pitch runner, has scored each time.

The Buccaneers and Owls conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
