Back To Back Sweeps For Men's Volleyball

The Bucs take Webber International in straight sets.

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Barry Men's Volleyball team swept Webber International on the road for their first win against the Warriors in program history. Multiple Buccaneers tied or matched career highs in the process.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - The Buccaneers welcome two new faces to the starting rotation against the Warriors in Elias Fuhrer and Diego Alvarez, and it paid off quickly. Fuhrer jumped on the first kill that immediately followed with Alvarez getting a kill to make it 2-1 Barry. A 10-2 run to end the set had the Bucs dominating the first set. The offense had 12 kills, hitting .385 for a match-high, making just two errors. | Barry 25, WIU 14
  • Set Two - Webber got the first point for the second straight set. A 4-0 rally gave the Bucs a cushioned two-point lead at 8-6, earning all four points with three kills and a block. WIU attempted to make a late comeback but Alvarez came in and closed the set for a 2-0 match lead. The offense had a huge set with 17 kills, holding the Warriors to nine kills and hitting .125. | Barry 25, WIU 21
  • Set Three - In the final set, the Bucs were able to secure the first point thanks to Philip Tein. Momentum swung quickly with a five-point rally for the Bucs that had them up 13-7. Tein started and finished the set ending the match with a service ace. The defense stepped up for three blocks in the set and forced a .132 hitting percentage. | Barry 25, WIU 19

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Alvarez had a career-high in kills with nine, one shy of a double-double having 10 digs.
  • William Phinizy also had nine tying his season-high as he hit .429.
  • Fuhrer had his second-highest career kills with eight and swinging .727.
  • Bobby Clapp had his second-highest career match in digs with 16.
  • Joao Piazza Baumgartem had matched his career-high with 30 assists.
  • The Bucs dominated all statistical categories.

UP NEXT:
Barry will return home Friday to take on Jamestown in the first match up of their two match stint on the weekend.
