MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2026 season with a 4-2 win over the Cal State-East Bay Pioneers on Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

- B4 - The Bucs tacked on an insurance run in the fourth. Dyson Joseph dropped a single into shallow center with two outs. Hatfield delivered the two-out hit, launching double off the wall in dead center. | Barry 4, East Bay 2
NOTEWORTHY:
- Tyler Venegas (1-0), who came on in relief of starter Jack Ensell, entered in the fourth inning leading 3-2 and worked four scoreless innings on three hits and a walk, while striking out six. He got the win for the Bucs.
- Ryan Juric (0-1) took the loss for the Pioneers. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in three innings. Three of his five hits went for extra-bases.
- The Bucs bullpen closed the game with seven straight outs. Venegas got a strike out to end the seventh and Dalton Williams and John Perozzi each pitched perfect innings in the eighth and ninth.
- Perozzi picked up his first save, striking out the final batter.
- Blair led the Bucs at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBI.
- Hatfield and Blanks each had two hits, a double and an RBI.
- Micha Cernvantes went 2-for-4 with a triple to pace the Pioneers.Â
