#9 Volleyball Takes Down Top-Ranked Fighting Knights

The 9th-ranked Buccaneers dominate the no.1 Fighting Knights on the road

BOCA RATON, Fla.   The ninth-ranked Barry University Women's Volleyball team took down the no. 1 ranked Lynn Fighting Knights from the de Hoernle Center on Saturday afternoon. This marks the second straight year the Buccaneers take down the top-ranked team in the nation on the road. It marks the first time since 2022 the Bucs take down the Fighting Knights and the first time since 2018 that they win in Boca Raton.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Barry carried over their momentum from last night and started the match with a 5-0 run. Petra Brkicic had back-to-back service aces in that span. A mixture of Fighting Knight errors and capitalization from the Barry offense put together a set pen victory for the Buccaneers. The offense hit .259 with 10 kills. Lynn committed 12 errors that contributed to the big set win. | Barry 25, Lynn 17
  • Set Two - Lynn picked up the early lead in set two that held for a few rallies. Barry was able to come back and tie things up at nine-all. From there the Fighting Knights maintained a two-point margin on the Bucs and gained thought the set. This tied the match up at one-all. | Lynn 25, Barry 19
  • Set Three - It turned up again for the Bucs in set three when Veronika Eremeeva held service. She had five service aces in her one rotation of 10 serves. It was a contribution on all facets of the game with 12 kills, six service aces and two blocks in the set two win, making 20 of the 25 points earned. The Bucs had just one attacking error and hit .458. Varvara Osychenko had an efficient set with four kills on six attempts to hit .667. | Barry 25, Lynn 15
  • Set Four - The fourth set saw Barry go on multiple runs to secure the match victory. The defense came up big with four blocks, including three block solos from Osychenko, Eremeeva, and Valeriya Kozlova. Kozlova and Eremeeva led the attack with five and four kills, respectively. Ivana Zujovic called game with the final kill. Barry had their best offense set with 12 kills and hitting .478, while holding Lynn to their worst set on the day at a .143 hit percentage. | Barry 25, Lynn 16

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Valeriya Kozlova led the team again with 19 kills ad nine digs. 
  • Veronika Eremeeva had a well balanced match with 16 kills, hitting .412 adding five service aces, five blocks, and five digs.
  • Eremeeva had her first career five service ace match.
  • Gaia Riedmüller led the backrow with 11 digs.
  • Petra Brkicic led the setters with 31 assists and also added five service aces for a career-high. 
  • The defense had their fourth double-digit blocks match. 
  • Barry had a season-high 14 service aces.
  • Statistically, the Bucs led in most categories, dominating in service aces and blocks 14-6 ad 11-4, respectively. 

UP NEXT:

The Buccaneers will ssay on the road next week and travel to Winter Park to take on Rollins on Friday, October 3rd.
