ORLANDO -- The Barry duo of Veronika Eremeeva and Ester Pushkarov have been honored by the Sunshine State Conference as offensive and defensive volleyball players of the week for Sept. 8-14, respectfully, after leading the Bucs to a 3-0 week at the UP North Tournament.
Eremeeva averaged 4.60 kills per set to lead Barry on the week. The Russian began the event with 14 kills and a .379 attack percentage in a sweep of Northern Michigan. In a 3-0 win against Michigan Tech, Eremeeva tallied a match-high 15 kills with a .355 attack percentage, nine digs, and three blocks. The All-Tournament team honoree rounded out the week with a match-high 17 kills in a 3-1 win over No. 10 St. Cloud State. For the week, Eremeeva totaled 46 kills and a .276 attack percentage while averaging 1.40 digs, 0.90 blocks, and 0.70 service aces per set. The weekly award is the second of her career.
Pushkarov anchored the Buccaneer defense with 17 blocks across a 3-0 record at the tournament. The Israeli opened the event with a match-high six blocks (one solo) in a sweep of Northern Michigan. Pushkarova followed with three blocks in a sweep of Michigan Tech. Finally, the junior middle hitter tallied a match-high eight blocks along with two digs as the Buccaneers defeated No. 10 Saint Cloud State in four sets. Offensively, Pushkarov provided Barry with 11 kills on 17 attempts with no errors for a .647 attack percentage. The award is the first of her career.
The 5-0 Bucs travel to Embry-Riddle for the Bahama House Classic this weekend, facing Seton Hill and Lewis at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach.
