MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Head coach Allison Bustamante has added the eighth member to the 2025-26 recruiting class with the addition of center Janina Vergara from Barcelona, Spain.
"We're excited to add Janina to our roster," Bustamante said. "She brings valuable experience and leadership, along with great size and physicality. Her presence on the boards — both offensively and defensively — will make a strong impact for us right away."
Vergara played at Gillette College during her freshman year under coach Liz Lewis, where they finished fourth in the conference. She played in a total of 30 overall games, with 12 of those being conference games. Vergara averaged 2.0 points per game with 2.1 rebounds.
During her sophomore year, Vergara played at the University of Bridgeport under coach James Howard, where she made an appearance in seven games averaging 1.3 rebounds with 0.6 points per game and a free throw percentage of 66.7 percent. Vergara was also nominated for the school's presidential list for fall 2024 and spring 2025.
"Barry University seems like a great place for me to finish my last two years of college," Vergara said. The team they've put together is very well-rounded, and I love being a part of it. Coach Allison gives me a great vibe, confidence, and you can tell she knows what she's doing. She's a true professional. I'm looking forward to this new season and seeing how great this team can be."
The Buccaneers are coming off a 19-10 season and a Sunshine State Conference Tournament appearance.
