MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Jacob Powell joined Barry University's women's basketball staff in July 2025, bringing international coaching experience and a championship pedigree to the Buccaneers.

"I am thrilled to welcome Jacob to the Barry women's basketball program," head coach Allison Bustamante said. "His passion for teaching the game, his ability to build strong relationships with players, and his tireless work ethic make him an incredible addition to our staff. Coach Powell embodies the values of trust, respect, and hard work that we are building our culture on, and I know he will make a tremendous impact both on the court and in the lives of our student-athletes."

With over a decade of coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, and grassroots levels. Known for his ability to develop championship-caliber athletes and teams, Powell's career includes leadership roles in Europe and the U.S., highlighted by multiple conference and league titles.

Before arriving at Barry, Powell served as an assistant coach for the Ave Maria men's basketball team, where he helped the Gyrenes to a Sun Conference Tournament Championship in the 2024-2025 season, reinforcing his impact on player development and game preparation.

Prior to his time at Ave Maria, Powell was the Assistant Coach and Head of Player Development for the KIT SC College Wizards in the German Bundesliga, where he was instrumental in optimizing player performance, designing skill development programs, and fostering a championship-caliber culture. During his time with KIT, the team captured a Regionaliga championship in the 2023-2024 season, showcasing his ability to develop winning teams at the professional level in Europe.

In addition to his collegiate and professional experience, Powell was the director of basketball recruiting at Maine-Fort Kent, overseeing talent identification and recruitment for the program. He has also been an influential figure in grassroots basketball as the co-director of MaxHoops Elite Basketball Schools and Showcases, a premier development program in the Pacific Northwest.

Powell earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Maine-Fort-Kent in 2020 and a second bachelor's in interdisciplinary studies at Eastern Oregon in 2024.
